Ventspils Digital Centre educators increase their knowledge in the development of family activities and educational programmes

From 26 April to 3 May, representatives of the Ventspils Digital Centre went on an exchange visit to the Norwegian Science and Experiment Centre "Vilvite" in Bergen, which is a partner of the project "Establishment of an Innovation Centre in Ventspils", to learn more about the development, organisation and implementation of educational programmes and family activities.

During the visit, the Ventspils Digital Centre teachers had the opportunity to get acquainted with the curriculum and workshops offered by the Vilvite Science Centre, as well as to work together with the students in several activities exploring ecosystems, hydropower and the impact of climate change on the world. As in Ventspils, the curricula at Vilvite Science Center are developed in conjunction with exhibits, which allow you to practice and understand the material you have learned or heard at school and elsewhere. This exchange of experience is especially valuable because it allows you to feel like a visitor and understand what the intended result should be.

One of the main objectives of the exchange was to gain an understanding of the basic principles and organisation of science shows and workshops, and how to apply these principles in the VIZIUM Science Centre. The Digital Centre educators had the opportunity to go behind the scenes of science shows and learn about the different details related to scripting, experimentation, preparation and organisation, as well as the most important aspects to consider during the show.

Representatives of the Digital Centre, together with Vilvite educators, went to a local kindergarten to observe the organisation of science shows for younger audiences. Also, during the exchange visit, a prototype curriculum was tested on the topic of the human body, analysing mistakes and proposing solutions.  Discussions were also held on planning summer activities.

The experience exchange trip is being realized within the project “Development of the Innovation centre in Ventspils city” that is funded by the European Economic Area and the Norway grant programme “Research and Education”.
