Aquamarine, with its lovely blue-green hue, is a gemstone that is as refreshing as its name suggests – inspired by the clear waters of the ocean (aqua marina means "sea water" in Latin). Aquamarine is a variant of the mineral beryl, which shares its family with the emerald. It gets its characteristic blue-green color from traces of iron in the crystal structure. Found in places like Brazil, Pakistan and Madagascar, aquamarine is often associated with the sea, both in appearance and history.
